Blog #7 - Lexia

This blog entry is about a tool that was mentioned in my T3PP interview.

Description:

Lexia is platform that is based on the Science of Reading (SOR) research and curriculum. Lexia is a place where educators and district workers can come to learn more and access curriculum of the SOR so they can teach their students better reading skills.

Ease Of Use:

I would give ease of use a 9/10. I think Lexia's website is very easy to navigate and understand. With many drop-down bars and explanations of the curriculum educators can easily access this knowledge. Lexia also uses videos and other visual tools to help with understanding.

Versatility:

I will give versatility an 7/10. This platform does a great job of hitting all grades and ages but it only focuses on one subject. This is a really good educator tool but it doesn't allow for the kids to have direct usage.

Use it?:

I would give using it in the classroom a 9/10. Lexia has a very researched based foundation and the SOR skills have been proven to help kids read. Using this knowledge can increase reading and comprehension in my future classroom.

Conceptual Connection:

One conceptual connection I can make is in the TLC framework, T1. T1 is the planning part of this framework. Lexia helps teacher prepare lesson plans and understand curriculum. Teachers can use this platform to help organize their lessons.

Comments

  1. Lexia is a great resource for teachers that are teaching students how to read. I like that you rated what you felt about the ease of use, versatility, and your likelihood of use. I felt that you could have given more details about what it is and how to utilize it in the classroom. Overall, great post!

  2. I really like that you chose a tool connected to your T3PP interview it shows you’re thinking about real classroom application. I’ve heard a lot about how important the Science of Reading is becoming in schools, so it’s great that you highlighted Lexia’s strong research-based foundation. I agree that it seems easy to navigate and helpful for teachers when planning instruction.
