Description:

Canvas is a web-based learning management system that was created by Instructure. This platform can be used in K-12 classrooms, colleges, and business settings. It can also be used for communication purposes and resources. Millions of people use this platform for all sorts of different learning management and it is a great tool for the classroom.

Ease of Use:

For Ease of use I would rank Canvas a 7/10. I think Canvas has a lot of amazing feature for both students and teachers. There is a lot of organization and adaptation that you can do to Canvas to best suit your needs. Canvas does have a lot of areas of use and can sometimes be confusing to new users. Canvas also has some technical glitches sometimes that can cause a little inconvenience.

Versatility:

For Versatility I would rate this a 7/10. I think Canvas has a lot of different ways to customize and use this platform. This could be used for classrooms, courses, clubs, or other groups. There are also many pages and sections of the app that can organize sections and tools like, messages, pages, textbooks, etc.

Use it?:

For my future classroom, I would rank this a 8/10. If I had a younger class like K-5 I probably would not use this because it can be advanced and a little harder to manage at that age. If I was teaching older grades I think it is a great tool to use. Once you have some practice with the site it is very easy to navigate.

Conceptual Connection:

This week we talked about the PICRAT framework. Canvas can connect to this by falling in the IA box (interactive & amplifies). Canvas is interactive and is used by both teachers and students to organize and work through classes in different modules and sections.  Canvas amplifies traditional practice by having digital assignments, textbooks, and other things you would see in a traditional program.

Here is a video that gives an overview of this platform:

  1. Charlotte, I really liked your breakdown of Canvas! I also thought your PICRAT connection was strong. Overall, great job explaining the tool in a clear and relatable way!
